Senior IT Technician - Permanent

An excellent opportunity is available within Digital Technology Services for a Senior IT Technician to join the Trust's Infrastructure Team.

We are seeking a highly experienced technical lead who has a demonstrable track record, through use of their initiative and leadership skills, of successfully managing the Trust's main data storage and server infrastructure platform.

Main duties of the job

The Senior IT Technician is responsible for the development, management and maintenanceof the Trust's core IT Infrastructure. The post holder will be responsible for leading ontechnical development and implementation of system interoperability in accordance with theTrust's Technical Strategy.

  • Responsible for the development and management of the Trust's IT enterpriseinfrastructure systems. Ensuring operations and data security is maintained to apremium.
  • Responsible for providing technical expertise on infrastructure systems such as: Cisconetworks, Nutanix Hyperconvergence infrastructure, Citrix, MS Azure Cloud Solutionand Palo Alto Firewalls, ensuring system integration runs smoothly.
  • Act as the technical lead on system interoperability projects collaborating with ProjectManagers and effectively managing a Team ensuring project delivery is on time andwell communicated.
  • Responsible for working within expected budget limits.
  • Responsible for providing troubleshooting technical expertise where expected.Diagnosing problems and identifying solutions.
  • Responsible for liaising effectively with Service Support Managers on system deliverywhere required.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Provide technical expert support on the Trusts MS Windows server and Cisco networkinfrastructure ensuring they are operating efficiently so down time is at an absoluteminimum.

2. Maintain the Windows server infrastructure thereby ensuring effective operation. This includes managing the backup process in accordance with the SLA.

3. Provide 3rd line support and troubleshooting assistance to core systems. This includes using your Active Directory skills to resolve infrastructure issues. These may include but not exclusively limited to addressing group policy, OU management and assigning user permissions, etc.

4. Provide support assistance on a variety of IT infrastructure technologies, which include Netapps, Citrix, VMware, Solarwinds, Veritas and SCCM 2012. Have a working knowledge of: Palo Alto Firewalls, Sophos XG, Nutanix, Veeam, Unitrends and any future support technologies. Ensure all IT platforms are kept up to date with the latest security specifications.

5. Have a good working knowledge of Azure Sentinel and cyber security in general.

6. Develop processes to ensure the smooth transition of new services into the operational environment.

7. Contribute towards the strategic planning of the estate infrastructure with regard to version stability and required capacity planning. This includes contributing to the development of new and improved processes, report writing and educating junior team members to ensure compliance.

8. Act as the technical lead for significant technical activities such as for upgrades, rebuilds and physical server moves between the server rooms and the data centre.

9. Expected to supervise staff when necessary to ensure maximum service available to the ICT service users.

10.Use your experience and expertise to troubleshoot infrastructure Business As Usual issues related to all aspects of server infrastructure issues such as: Active Directory, network management software, VPN concepts and firewall facilities in use within the organisation in accordance with the SLAs.
