Job summary

Come and join us to work within an exciting service across the city of Birmingham, working alongside education and local authority partners, supporting a graduated approach to help children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

We are delighted to be able to offer committed, experienced and dynamic individuals the opportunity to join our friendly and forward-thinking children's community therapy service. These are newly created posts due to development within our growing team.

Main duties of the job

To provide Occupational Therapy at a specialist level, functioning in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to support the SEND Locality team in the early identification of need.To work as part of multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams, to deliver specialist interventions according to the agreed service packages of care and pathways providing early intervention for children and young people.

To contribute towards ensuring children and young people with additional needs gain access to a broad, balanced and relevant education, whilst also having their exceptional needs met in an inclusive a way as possible.

Work as part of multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams, including educational colleagues, providing early intervention for children and young people. Enable and empower staff, parents/caregivers to identify childrens needs and provide strategies to help at the earliest opportunity. Provide training and bespoke coaching to children and young people, early years/ school staff and parents/caregivers. Consult and work collaboratively with children and young people, parents, caregivers and school staff to problem solve functional difficulties Attend regular meetings with staff from the SEND Locality teams to support early identification of need, ensuring specialist help though locality forums. Negotiate with multi-disciplinary team colleagues and carers with reference to management of complex cases, including instigating referrals as appropriate Use specialist knowledge to inform clinical judgments and decision making Undertake differential diagnosis of cases and contribute to overall decision-making for complex clients with a range of disorders as part of a team approach Advise other professionals and parents/carers on the appropriate type and level of support needed to develop skills in the home / school environment. Assess, provide and monitor the use of therapeutic equipment as required. This will involve liaising with other agencies, teaching parents or carers about health and safety issues surrounding the equipment to enable its safe use

  • degree level qualification in Occupational Therapy
  • oHCPC Licence to practice
  • oFull Membership of Professional body,
  • oEvidence of recent relevant CPD activities in specialist area
