We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and forward thinking community team to support and develop service provision for children with SLCN linked to one of our 6 localities.

It's an exciting time for the service:

  • Significant new investment from health and our education partners to grow the team across a range of bands including significant growth in our leadership team
  • Community SLT teams working in localities developing local networks and building skills in the wider workforce, increasing our impact
  • A growing SEND locality agenda to integrate education and Local Authority and Early years partners, supporting a graduated approach to helping children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Main duties of the job

You will:

  • Undertake differential diagnosis of cases and contribute to overall decision-making for complex clients with a range of disorders as part of a team approach
  • Identify and plan appropriate intervention including delivering assessment and therapy in groups and one-to-one sessions, in accordance with the pathways & service agreed packages of care
  • Work with the locality leads to develop services and offer support and supervision to junior colleagues.
  • Build local networks and contribute to new ways of working in collaboration with the wider stakeholders.
  • Support the staff in your team to work in ways which optimise impact and deliver on outcomes.

Essential

  • oFirst degree level qualification, relevant to service area
  • oHCPC Licence to practice
  • oFull Membership of Professional body , relevant to service area
  • oEvidence of recent relevant CPD activities in specialist area
  • oRelevant training in specialist area e.g. post graduate dysphagia qualification, Sensory-Integration, neurological rehabilitation
  • oRelevant training in clinical leadership

Experience

Essential

  • oExtensive experience of working as a specialist therapist with children and families in a range of multi-disciplinary and / or multi-agency teams in Local Authority and Health settings
  • oExtensive experience of managing a mixed and complex caseload of children and young people with a range of developmental disorders and delays
  • oSignificant experience of managing safeguarding concerns and an understanding of local processes
  • oRelevant experience of using leadership skills for service development
  • oSignificant experience in providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals
