Job summary
The Inpatient Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (INRU) is a specialist neurological rehabilitationunit, which provides specialist assessment and intensive rehabilitation for people with disabilities resulting from neurological conditions.INRU specialises in acute rehabilitation of patients over the age of 16 with head injuries, subarachnoid haemorrhages, stroke or other forms of brain injury. Patients with progressive neurological conditions are also seen.We are a Regional Level 1 Neurological Rehabilitation Unit commissioned by NHS England and part of the Major Trauma Pathway, These patients display a wide range of complex physical, cognitive and psychological impairments, providing a challenging and rewarding nursing environment and an ability to gain a specialist rehabilitation nursing skillset including: tracheostomy management and weaning, neurogenic continence management including teaching of intermittent self-catheterisation and cognitive / behavioural rehabilitation techniques. You will work as part of a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team in order to optimise these patient's independence and quality of life during their stay on the unit.
Main duties of the job
Demonstrate skills within assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care /treatment packages for patients with an acquired brain injury.To demonstrate practice over a range of interventionsTo work in collaboration with colleagues and the wider social care network to provide a holistic package of care / treatment for patients.Work autonomously and collaboratively with colleagues providing interventions at the clinical base or other appropriate venuesTo lead, manage and give clear direction to junior Nursing colleagues To ensure that the guiding principles of Clinical Governance are in place and that they are utilised to maintain and enhance clinical practice and quality within the team.
The ideal candidate will have a expert knowledge of the nursing issues within neuro-rehabilitation, and have some experience of teaching and / or course design. A commitment to ongoing professional development to ensure practice keeps pace with current national guidance is essential. The post also requires excellent communication skills to manage the ongoing needs of patients, relatives and staff.

- To have specialist knowledge of the relevant Neuro speciality, gained through in-depth post registration training or equivalent relevant specific training.
