Job summary

Birmingham Community Healthcare (BCHC) Charity is seeking an experienced Fundraising Manager who will deliver the timely, efficient and effective management of income generating activities on behalf of BCHC Charity. Working alongside the wider charity team and reporting regularly to the Charity Manager this position is ideal for someone wanting to shape the charity's future fundraising and help make a real different to the staff and patients who access BCHC services.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for developing and delivering a Fundraising Strategy in support of the Charity's key objectives by delivering the income required to sustain the operational costs of the Charity and provide a healthy surplus to be used for impactful grant-making.

This is a senior role and the post holder will be required to use initiative and seek out new areas of business development and engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders covering a wide geographical area identifying key opportunities for growth. The post holder will be able to effectively communicate, negotiate, build relationships and make decisions that benefit the Charity, translating the outcomes and outputs into impactful initiatives that support the aims of the Charity.

Job responsibilities

Income generation

  • Develop and deliver a Fundraising Strategy and associated implementation plan in support of the key objectives.
  • Actively support and produce high level reports and analysis of complex productivity metrics in regard to the strategy requirements, processes, communication, planning and implementation.
  • Develop and deliver a portfolio of excellent quality and varied fundraising opportunities suitable for our key audiences, ensuring appropriate effort/return ratios, as detailed below (this is not an exhaustive list)
  • Initiate and deliver events

  • support individual fundraisers
  • solicit corporate support
  • promote NHS Charities Together fundraising initiatives The Big Tea and other fundraising events
  • manage lottery, payroll-giving and other regular giving opportunities

  • Maintain, enhance and expand existing income generation activities.
  • Ensure all systems are maintained to manage donation records and relevant gift aid opportunities.
  • Deliver against incrementally increasing annual targets for a range of income streams as agreed with the Head of Charity, including an appropriate level of unrestricted income.
  • Develop and deliver excellent quality stewardship of all supporters.
  • Ensure supporters are appropriately thanked and recognised, and that any grant reporting is completed in a timely manner to an excellent standard.
  • Lead on the development of concise and compelling cases for support for all audiences.
  • Develop volunteer support for the charity, including the formation and management of fundraising volunteer groups across the region supported by the Volunteer Co-Ordinator.

Project Management

  • Work across all areas of the Trust to identify potential fundable projects and promote them to our audiences.
  • Work alongside project managers to ensure delivery of charity-funded projects, working closely with internal and external stakeholders associated with these projects.
  • Establish and manage (where appropriate) overall project plans and monitor them against agreed project budgets.
  • Be responsible for the creation and submission of monitoring and evaluation reports as required.
  • Make timely and sound decisions; integrate information and perspectives from colleagues to make reasoned, educated decisions.
  • To develop and deliver regular specialist guidance, training and material including manuals, policies and web pages content associated with fundraising and income generation.
  • Understand the risks and barriers that may occur linked to fundraising and income generation, making sure regular reviews of the projects progress and upcoming stages are thoroughly thought-out and mitigated.
  • Develop and produce performance analysis and reports of data captured from the projects progress and outcomes and present this to the Charitable Funds Committee.
  • Adhering to corporate governance requirements, including Information Governance, financial controls and Trust policies.

  • Establish and undertake liaison with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate excellent communications skills and influence a wide spectrum of senior managers, clinicians and other support service staff
  • Represent the Charity in an appropriate and professional manner, upholding the reputation of both the Trust and the Charity.
  • Work closely with the Communication and Engagement Lead to manage an ongoing process of raising awareness of the Charity across all stakeholder groups, effectively publicising case studies, fundraising opportunities, cases for support and other relevant messaging to appropriate audiences.
  • Ensure all communication is clear, consistent and represents the values and ethos of the Charity.
  • Represent the Charity in public forums and produce written material for the Charitys marketing materials.
  • Make presentations as appropriate to external audiences including volunteer groups, companies, grant-making bodies, community groups and other supporters.
  • Highlight any potential reputational risks to the Head of Charity, managing the outcome and escalating where appropriate.
