We are offering an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic dietitian with an interest in paediatrics to join and grow our friendly team. You will join a multi professional team of 9 Community Paediatric Dietitians and 1 Paediatric Nutrition Nurse, with excellent administration support. It is preferable that you have paediatric experience to be considered for a band 6 post, but not essential. If you are interested in Paediatric Dietetics, we would also welcome applications from band 5 dietitians. We have a proven track record of progressing band 5 dietitians to band 6, with supportive training and a pathway with demonstrable competencies. One of our recent band 5 to 6 dietitians said "The team at BCHC supported me to meet my competencies and develop into a competent and confident band 6 paediatric dietitian. I felt fully supported throughout the process, and someone was always on hand to address my queries (even the silly ones!)."
This is a clinical role working with children & families referred into the service by BCHC colleagues and GPs, as well as children discharged from acute units. You will have a high degree of autonomy in your clinical practice and day-to-day organisation of your workload, within the context of supportive team of peers.
Main duties of the job
To adhere to the standards of conduct, performance and ethics and the dietitians standards of proficiency of the Health Professions Council.

To be aware of your level of responsibility and accountability within the service, being guided by policies, procedures and the support of peers and to support lower grade colleagues to do the same.

To act in a professional manner promoting the organisation, the role of the dietitian and the importance of nutritional care.
To be responsible for maintaining and demonstrating own competence to practice through participation in appraisal process and CPD within the framework of the professional portfolio.
To undertake comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex nutritional needs.
To plan and deliver individualised nutritional care plans based on comprehensive assessment of needs and a knowledge of evidence based practice, modifying the care plan as required. This will include practical and emotional support for children with severe and life-limiting diagnoses and their families on all matters related to their dietetic care.
To negotiate and agree dietary or nutritional goals with individual patients and/or their carers using motivational interviewing, counselling and cognitive behaviour therapy tools as applicable.
