Main duties of the job

Candidates should be passionate about supporting, promoting, and sharing good practice with educational colleagues, families, children and young people across the city, strengthening their skills in supporting the SEND agenda.

Candidates must have:

  • Skills in operational team management and support or a desire to develop these skills.
  • highly developed clinical and negotiation skills
  • experience with providing training to parents and/or education settings
  • experience with monitoring, reviewing and evaluating service provision

You will contribute to the development of the OT services alongside colleagues, Service Clinical Managers and the Professional Leads. You may also have responsibility for supervision of designated staff.

The Occupational Therapy teams work as part of Inclusion Services within the Children and Families Division of Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Responsible for the day to day operational management and co-ordination, of a designated team. The post holder will act as a conduit between staff and the Service Operational Manager, ensuring robust two-way communication.
  2. The post holder will deputise for the Service Operational Manager and provide cover for other Team Leaders if required and as agreed.
  3. To provide Occupational Therapy at a highly specialist level, functioning in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to support the SEND Locality team in the early identification of need.
  4. To work as part of multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams, to deliver highly specialist interventions according to the agreed service packages of care and pathways providing early intervention for children and young people.
  5. To contribute towards ensuring children and young people with additional needs gain access to a broad, balanced and relevant education, whilst also having their exceptional needs met in an inclusive a way as possible.
  6. To assist in the monitoring, assessment and development of whole school approaches; develop and maintain effective parent partnership working and deliver the provision of a professional development framework for teachers and support staff.
  7. To develop and maintain effective working relationships with parents / carers and other stakeholders, using highly developed negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
  8. To maintain, develop and promote excellence in clinical practice within the specialist area of the service, with reference to current research and evidence-based practice, contributing to safe effective practice in the specialist clinical area
  9. Demonstrate clinical leadership and represent the local team/service area in all appropriate meetings to support the planning and development of quality services across the city
  10. To work alongside education colleagues within SENAR to address queries and concerns relating to OT involvement within EHC process:
  11. To supply to SENAR an objective clinical perspective on specific cases, as well as on issues related to childrens functional difficulties and the profession of Occupational Therapy. This may include carrying out assessment to inform new EHCP requests or in relation to tribunal cases.
