Candidates MUST have a NVQ level 3 in Early years or Childcare or equivalent (BTEC, NNEB, CACHE Diploma)

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
- Will be part of a skill mixed team and as a Community Nursery Nurse you will work to deliver the universal and targeted Healthy Child and Public Health Nursing Programme as part of the Hertfordshire Family Centre Service. Working across the 0-5 age, age 6 Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) age range under the direction of the Public Health Nurse (PHN) to improve the Health and wellbeing of the local population.
- Have a full valid driving licence and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Job responsibilities
- To undertake universal Healthy Child Programme reviews, Tier One targeted interventions and public health interventions either 1:1 or groups, delegated by the PHN.
- Work as part of the Family Centre Service to deliver the 0 - 5 Healthy Child and Public Health Nursing Programme.
- To support the PHN in identifying level of need and delivery of targeted Tier One interventions e.g. Sleep, behaviour, breastfeeding support, speech and languagesupport, Tier 1 continence and soiling, healthy eating, emotional health and wellbeing,
- Facilitate health promotion sessions and deliver activities in a variety of settings on local public health priorities as identified through health needs assessment analysis by the PHN.
- Provide pre-schools, nurseries and family support centres with advice and training /awareness on health related matters as appropriate, seeking support and guidance from PHN.
- Work in partnership with other members of staff and teams, voluntary and statutory organisations in response to service user needs.
- Signpost and provide information for parents, communicating information in an understandable form to children and young people.
- To promote effective team working, sharing knowledge and information, encouraging a supportive environment to promote good working practice and outcomes.
- Demonstrate empathy, compassion and ability to reassure.
- Work in accordance with Local Safeguarding Childrens Boards procedures and participate in Safeguarding Supervision with appropriate training and guidance, recognise indicators of child abuse, reporting concerns to senior member of the team.
- Participate in identified work with families, children and young people, attending child protection conferences, core groups, child in need and team around the family meetingsas required, under the supervision of a PHN.
- To participate in audit activities to ensure appropriate, safe and evidence base practice

- To maintain accurate, up-to-date, contemporaneous records in line with organisational policy and guidance. This includes SystmOne data entry of all activity.

- To demonstrate continuous personal development and Compliance with mandatory training, maintenance of competencies required for the role.
- To work within National and organisational policies including Health and Safety.

Operational delivery
- Works under supervision of the Public Health Nurse, organising own day to day workload and liaise effectively with the other members of the team.The post holder will prioritise their own workload, arranging visits with clients and reprioritising as demand requires.

- Recognise the importance of making appropriate and timely referrals if required.
- Ability to recognise any variances in the child/young person's condition and report to the registered professional in a timely and accurate way.
- Maintain an awareness of indicators of child or adult abuse. Follow Trust and County Child Protection procedures, reporting all concerns regarding clients to the Public Health Nurse.

- Ensure confidentiality is maintained.

- Ensure that Clinical Governance issues are addressed in conjunction with the PHN.

- Develop self through reflective practice, identifying professional development needs and accessing training and development opportunities.
Management and Leadership
- Support the development and induction of new team members, by participating in programmes of learning for members of the team.
Communication and Relationship Building
- Establish clear and effective communication links with children/young people, parents/carers, education staff, Family Support Workers and a range of other professionals from both voluntary and statutory organisations.
- Provide and receive routine information which requires tact or persuasive skills or where there are barriers to understanding use appropriate communication and interpersonal skills to achieve maximum understanding.
- Be sensitive to the needs of children, young people and their carers who may have communication problems. Where English is not the first language or understanding limited identify appropriate resources to optimise understanding for parents and young people.
- This role involves working and communicating with children, young people, carers and multidisciplinary teams. This requires excellent communication styles and the ability to converse in a sensitive and appropriate manner at all times.
- Communicates complex childcare and child related information in relation to the target Tier One interventions e.g., Sleep, behaviour, tier 1 continence and soiling, healthy eating, emotional health and wellbeing where there could be barriers to understanding which require tact or persuasive skills to overcome these barriers.
- Verbal, written and electronic clinical record keeping must be of the highest standards.
Information Management
- Work Independently, using electronic patient health records to manage and update childrens health records including the routine entry and updating of data. Be able to provide data to others and produce simple reports or lists in response to queries raised. A highdegree of accuracy is necessary
