Job summary

Are you keenly interested in Autism and/or learning disability (LD) in Children and Young People (CYP)? Do you like working with families? Do you want to be part of supportive and reflective multi-disciplinary teams?

Additional funding allows us to recruit 2.0 wte permanent Band 8a Clinical Psychologists who bring strong skills / experience in Autism and/or LD to PALMS and the multidisciplinary Autism Assessment Service. Preceptorships will be considered.

We have opportunities for dynamic and passionate clinicians to provide intervention and assessment to CYP of all ages who may be autistic or have a LD. HCT is working with system partners to implement a transformed pathway for neurodivergent CYP. The vision is to ensure CYP and their families access early support, advice, and information including timely provision of diagnostic assessments and specialist intervention where clinically needed. We are innovative and flexible teams developing neuro-affirmative practices.

Main duties of the job

You will work:

  • in both PALMS and the Autism Assessment Service
  • closely with the MDTs/other agencies to provide intervention / diagnostic assessments

The ideal candidate will be:

  • experienced in providing assessment / intervention to CYP who are autistic and/or have LD
  • experienced in autism assessment or be willing to undertake specialist training
  • able to provide supervision to assistant psychologists or other members of the MDT
  • highly professional when working in settings that can be highly emotive
  • flexible in their approach and have resilience under pressure
  • able to work in a team environment and autonomously

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology.
  • Formal training in supervision of trainee clinical psychologist
  • Significant experience of working with people with a learning disability and with people with an Autistic Spectrum disorder in a range of settings and/or significant experience of working with children and young people.
