Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Therapy Team at the Worcestershire Stroke Rehabilitation Centre (WSRC) based at Evesham Community Hospital.

We are looking for a motivated Band 5 Occupational Therapist to develop in this stroke specific post. This is a permanent, full time (37.5hours per week) position involving working alongside a specialist OT team, and other MDT members, to deliver high quality patient care across 5 days a week, with occasional weekend working. The WSRC provides intensive inpatient rehabilitation in order to facilitate safe and timely discharges from hospital. There is also opportunity to work with complex neurology patients within this role.

You will receive regular supervision, in-service training and access to external courses relevant to this role. We will also offer preceptorship for new graduates.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage a complex caseload of patients presenting after stroke and other neurological conditions
  • Conduct neurological assessments
  • Prescribe appropriate seating systems designed to manage postural control deficits
  • Select, administer and analyse cognitive assessments
  • Plan and executive goal orientated rehabilitation programmes, measuring outcomes and grading activities accordingly to progress skills
  • Facilitate patient group activities
  • Deliver upper limb interventions using the latest evidence-based approaches
  • Practice mobility and transfers using therapeutic handling techniques
  • Actively engage in all MDT meetings
  • Support in complex discharge planning including completion of home assessments, prescribing equipment and referral onto appropriate services
  • Engage in a variety of CPD opportunities to support development of skill and knowledge in this field of practice
  • Supervision, support and further training will be provided by the senior OTs within the team
