a career change, or a chance to develop skills in Psychological Therapies.
We have an
exciting & rewarding opportunity to train to become an Accredited Cognitive
Behavioural Therapist within Herefordshire & Worcestershire NHS Talking
Therapies.
Over the
course of a year you will be supported to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in
Cognitive Behavioural therapy at the University of Birmingham commencing September
2025, this consists of 2 days study at the University & three days supervised
practice with NHS Talking Therapies.
On
successful completion of the Post Graduate Diploma you will be eligible to
become accredited with the British Association of Cognitive & Behavioural
Therapists, & you will be offered a permanent Band 7 High Intensity CBT
Therapist post.

the morning of Tuesday 9th June 2026.

held online with the university & Herefordshire and Worcestershire NHS
Talking Therapies weeks commencing 22 & 29 June 2026.
Main duties of the job
A typical week will involve attending university two days per week,
learning various disorder specific evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Models. The remainder of your week would require you to hold a small caseload
of patients where you will apply theory to practice under close supervision.
With the opportunity to work within a hybrid model you will take a blended
approach to office/home working as determined by service requirements,
therefore you will be expected to work autonomously and as part of a team. Under supervision you will collaboratively work
with patients in your care to assess and provide psychological interventions
and support individuals to work towards recovery. You will maintain clear and accurate clinical
records and will be supported to embed learning and reflect on practice via
regular supervision. You will be
recording clinical sessions for academic purposes and undertaking academic
assignments. You will be offered regular
opportunity for peer support. Preparation and organisation will form a key
part of your weekly structure.

Essential
- Must be qualified and registered in one of the appropriate Core Professions (see below as determined by the training body), with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience.
- Arts Therapists Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered.
- Counselling Accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred), Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA), Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals National Counsellor Accreditation Certificate (FDAP NCAC) or National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (previously National Counselling Society) - Accredited Professional Registrant (PNCPS Accred)
- Medicine Psychiatrist or General Practitioner, MBChB or MBBS, and usually PG training with membership of MRCGP, MRCP or MRCPsych.
- Nurse - NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse, or NMC Registered Learning Disability Nurse.
- Occupational Therapy BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy, MSc Occupational Therapy, or Diploma of the College of Occupational Therapists (DipCOT) and HCPC Registered.
