IV Therapy Specialist Nurse - Development Role

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated RN with extensive clinical skills to work within our Countywide IV Therapy Team. We are an ever developing IV Therapy service working in close partnership with the Neighbourhood Teams, OPAT, Hospital at home, Community and Acute Hospitals.

As a team our aim is to support patient flow within Acute Hospitals by supporting early discharges, prevent hospital admission, facilitate our in-reach service at the Acute Hospital sites and manage the midline placement service.

This position will initially be appointed at Band 5, reflecting the foundational level of practice required. With structured support, supervision, and the achievement of defined competencies, the successful candidate will progress to the role of Specialist IV Therapy Nurse. Upon meeting these criteria, the postholder will be regraded to Band 6, in alignment with the advanced responsibilities and scope of practice associated with the specialist role. However if the candidate has current Band 6 experience this will be taken into consideration and discussed during the interview process.

This post is countywide, therefore a full UK driving licence is required and access to a car is essential.

The hours are 30/32 over 5 days, we cover weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

A typical day for the team would cover the following duties:

You will be providing countywide IV Therapy to Patients in their own homes via varying venous access routes (Peripheral, PICC, Hickman, Portacaths and Midlines), working closely with the Neighbourhood teams.

EMIS and Sunrise is used so knowledge of those or other EPR systems is useful, but training can be provided.

Communication is Key as we deal with all members of multi-disciplinary team on a daily basis.

Holistic care of the patient and the ability to recognise and escalate patient deterioration is essential.

You will be lone working and can cover numerous miles car driver essential.

You will work in triage, taking new referrals from various services and ensuring the correct treatment is being requested, arranging treatment starts and allocating work to the team.

You will work in clinic in the Acute hospital, liaising with OPAT visit patients on the ward and inreach to facilitate discharges.

You will be able to place midlines in the Acute trust after the relevant training.
