Infant Feeding Support Worker

Job summary

Worcestershire Public Health Nursing 0-19 years team has an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Infant Feeding Support Worker. We are seeking someone who is passionate about supporting women with their breastfeeding journey. The role involves working in the community to help mothers and their partners to achieve their feeding goals. The post holder will undertake home visits and facilitate breastfeeding groups. Delivering antenatal infant feeding sessions is also an important part of the role. The successful candidate must be compassionate, a good communicator and team player.

The service operates Monday-Friday (excluding Bank Holidays). Short days will be considered (minimum of 9:30am-2:30pm)

The successful candidate will be expected to travel across the County. Lone working is part of the role.

The work base has not yet been determined and will be discussed at interview.

The successful candidate must be able to meet the travel requirements of the role.

The role is 35 hours per week but we would consider a minimum of 18 hours per week.

Please note the Trust will not routinely provide sponsorship to work for this role. In addition to meet Home Office salary threshold you must have the significant experience to be offered top of the pay band AND work a minimum of 35.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of a Public Health Nurse, to offer support and advice to women and their partners regarding feeding their baby.

Advise families about the health benefits of breastfeeding in individual and group settings.

Facilitate Breast Buddy feeding groups at Family Hubs and other venues.

Under the direction of Public Health Nurse colleagues, to undertake feeding assessments.

To support Breast Buddy volunteers as needed.

To facilitate antenatal Infant Feeding workshops and co-deliver the sessions.

To be an advocate for breastfeeding.

To work within the WHO International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes.

Help us work towards achieving UNICEF Baby Friendly Accreditation.

To encourage parents to build close and loving relationships with their babies and to support them in doing so.

  • Level 3 qualification (e.g. NVQ3, A-level) in a Health-related field or Level 2 qualification (e.g. NVQ2, GCSE Grade A-C) in Care and will be expected to undertake the relevant Level 3 qualification on appointment to post
  • The post holder will be expected to meet the Care Certificate standards within 12 weeks of commencing employment with the Trust
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.
