Job summary
The Estates and Facilities Management Directorate of Herefordshire &
Worcestershire NHS Healthcare Trust is seeking to recruit a motivated Carpenter
to undertake reactive and planned maintenance works at multiple sites across Herefordshire
and Worcestershire. You would be ensuring a high standard of work with
a key focus on planned maintenance to maintain fire doors for fire prevention
across the estate.
The successful applicant will be expected to carry out all types of
carpentry work such as doors, linings, frames and furniture etc.
You will be given all the support you need to steer the Estates
department to be an always improving team that is delivering, performing, and
operating a safe and compliant environment.

Main duties of the job
You should have City & Guilds certificate Level 3 Award in carpentry
(from the British Woodworking Association) or a City and Guilds Crafts
Certificate or equivalent.
You should have Fire Door Safety (6581))/Legislation training - FireQual approved certificate / qualifications
(or be prepared to attend a course to attain qualification) with a knowledge of
fire door design, supply, inspection, and maintenance. You must have undertaken
fire training within a previous maintenance / carpentry role.
You should have knowledge of Health and Safety
You should be capable of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
You should be able to prove solutions using own initiative.
You must be
prepared to assist with the planning and development of planned
engineering/building maintenance programmes to ensure compliance with key
standards - legislative and performance related (as defined through a Service
Level Agreement)

The primary purpose of this role is to professionally support and
undertake Building trades operations and maintenance with a key focus on
carpentry work and fire (doors) maintenance prevention.
You must be physically fit as activities will be demanding (lifting or
hanging doors) and/or non-routine.
You must ensure compliance with Trust safety standards, policies, and
procedures.
You must be able to work in
accordance with the requirements of Health Technical Memorandums (HTM)'s, Health
Board Notice (HBNs), British Standards, Model Specifications and all Statutory
Regulations and Codes of Practice.
You must be able to:-
Drive (Estates works van provided)
Be prepared to help identify and suggest
changes for your own work area to your Line Manager the Projects Estates
Officer
Prioritise work requirements on
essential facilities which could have a direct detrimental impact on the
patient experience; being able to react to changing workloads using a mobile
phone hand held and digital job management software to accomplish this.
Be able to assist with the set up
and Implementation/management of the Estates safe systems of work (e.g. Permit
to Work, isolation procedures) under the guidance of an Authorised Person (AP) to
ensure that all safe systems of work are carried out correctly.
Plan maintenance works, including
liaison with users and contractors.
Supervise Maintenance Assistants
(MAs) and operational estates contractors, allocating tasks/re-prioritising
where necessary, and ensuring the quality of specification and workmanship.
Liaise with the Estates Helpdesk to
receive and update on emergency works and service complaints.
Act on own initiative and advise
senior staff of any technical implications and risk issues when attending site
on call outs.
