Job summary
Are you an Occupational Therapist with experience in dementia care looking for a new challenge? If so come and join our dynamic and innovative team, dedicated to delivering high quality, evidenced based dementia assessment and post diagnostic interventions to people presenting with early symptoms of dementia. We are continuously looking to develop and enhance the service we offer, and this includes many opportunities to develop as individuals through both formal an informal training and supervision. Some of our previous team members have become Team Leaders and we have also been able to support the development of 2 team members into Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
The teams base is in Kidderminster Hospital, but we offer a county wide service with the flexibility of working from home or other trust bases around the county. Staff are aligned to geographical areas and we are advertising two posts, one in the north and one in the south of the county (to be confirmed at interview).

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with a specialist interest and experience in dementia assessment and post diagnostic interventions. You will play an integral role in supporting patients and their families through a dementia assessment and post diagnostic support. This will include delivering pre-diagnostic counselling, taking a detailed clinical history, undertaking cognitive testing and where appropriate formulating a diagnosis with the Consultant Psychiatrist and communicating this back to the patient. Following a diagnosis, we offer a time limited period of post diagnostic intervention which includes supporting with psychological adjustment, offering specialist advice in relation to the management of symptoms, liaising with other agencies e.g. social services and primary care and onward referral/ signposting.
You will work closely with Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists and support workers to ensure we offer the best care possible.
There will be opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in dementia care through in-house and external training, supervision and coaching.
