Job summary

Mortimer Ward is a 21bedded acute in patient ward for adults with serious mental health problems, requiring inpatient care and treatment. Patients requiring admission may also have complex physical co morbidities and applicants should have an interest in both mental and physical health care delivery. Patients admitted can either be in formal or detained under the Mental Health Act and require a holistic care approach to work towards their Recovery.

The ward has a multi-disciplinary team approach to deliver holistic care, including nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapist, activity support workers , Psychiatric Consultants and junior doctors. You will also work alongside colleagues in the Crisis Team and Adult Social Care. Mortimer Ward also welcomes and supports student nurses as part of our team.

Mortimer Ward operates a rotational shift pattern system over a 24 hours / seven day period. . The day shift starts at 07.30hrs till 20.00hrs and the night shift at 19.30hrs till 08.00 hrs. The post is full time but part time hours would be considered.

Main duties of the job

  • Delivering a high quality clinical service to patients and their families.
  • Acting as named nurse to a group of patients under the direction / supervision of the person identified with continuing responsibility.
  • Participating in therapeutic group work programmes.
  • Taking charge of the ward in the absence of the ward manager and deputy ward manager.
  • You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and contributing to; the formulation of the person's needs and the development of a relevant plan based upon the person's negotiated goals and relevant evidence based interventions.
  • You will, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, provide nursing interventions to support the person to meet their agreed goals and coordinate and/ or participate in the review of progress towards those goals, utilising recommended outcome measures, involving the service user and any identified carer throughout the clinical journey.

  • Registered on the NMC register
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer

Desirable

  • Attended control and restraint course within the last 12 months
  • CPR course
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
