Job summary

Do you want a rewarding career, where you can make a difference? This is an exciting opportunity for people looking for a career in healthcare, who have little or no formal care work experience to train as a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW).

It is important that you are a caring and kind person with a genuine desire to help and support patients and their families. If this sounds like you, then you already have the attributes that make a great HCSW.

As a Trainee HCSW, you will start your first four weeks with a full time training programme to build knowledge and you will gain experience prior to you starting in your role as HCSW. We will continue to support you to complete your Care Certificate and help settle you into the role.

We have vacancies for HCSW`s within our Community Hospital wards and Adult Mental health, Older Adult Mental Health, and Dementia Care Wards.

On completion of the four weeks full time training and experience, flexible working opportunities are available to discuss, with part time posts available from a minimum of 22.5 hours.

You are advised to read the attached New to Care Programme Information document for more detailed information about these roles.

This role requires you to have current right to work in the UK which enables you to undertake the role without need of sponsorship. Given the current UK immigration regulations this role is not eligible for sponsorship and therefore it is not possible for the Trust to sponsor applicants.

Main duties of the job

Every day will be different and you will work alongside the rest of the team carrying out a wide range of tasks and assisting with care to support the needs of patients and their families.

As a Trainee Healthcare Support Worker, you will:

  • Undertake four weeks training and work experience to prepare for a substantive role as a Healthcare Support Worker.
  • Attend all learning sessions and work towards completion of clinical skills checklist.
  • Commence the industry-standard Care Certificate (to be completed within 12 weeks of commencing)
  • Carry out assigned duties involving direct patient care in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse or experienced Healthcare Support Worker.
