Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a podiatry assistant to join the podiatry and diabetes foot protection team in Hounslow. We aim to provide high quality compassionate foot care to those in our community.

We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced Band 3 podiatry assistant to join us. You will need excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communications and the willingness and commitment to deliver great patient care. A calm and helpful attitude and a flexible approach to your workload is essential . Previous experience of working in a health care field, and experience of using SystmOne would be an advantage.

You will be expected to carry out home visits to housebound patients so access to your own transport will be essential.

Main duties of the job

As a podiatry assistant, you will provide toe nail cutting and foot care to a cohort of patients, following care plans previously prescribed by the podiatrist.

You will work alongside and directly assist podiatrists carrying out nail surgery sessions and in diabetes complex wound care clinics.

You will keep accurate and timely clinical records of your treatment on our electronic patient record system.

You will be working in locality clinics, patients own homes, and residential care homes, so access to your own transport will be essential.

You will hold your own caseload of patients who have been previously assessed by a podiatrist as suitable for an assistant to manage.

You will need a good understanding of Infection Prevention and Control and need to work at a high level of professionalism and accountability for your own work.

  • Mathematics and English grade C GCSE or equivalent
  • NVQ II qualification in Healthcare
  • A qualified driver with full clean driving licence

Desirable

  • National Care Certificate Award or willingness to work towards

Experience

  • Experience of working in both a team and in isolation.
  • Experience of working with older people

Desirable

  • To have worked in a health or social care setting
  • To have worked as a health care or therapy assistant

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic IT skills.
  • To have precision hand/eye co-ordination, able to use foot and nail care instruments safely f

Desirable

  • To manufacture padding and simple insoles as prescribed by the podiatrist.
