About us
Wellow Unit specialises in providing holistic care to people who are in their last hours to days of life within St Marys Hospital.
Wellow is a nurse-led unit overseen by our Consultant Nurse. We work closely with the Hospital Integrated Palliative and End of Life Team (IPET) who co-ordinate transfers into the unit and ensure optimum symptom control is provided for our patients.
Our aim is to provide a supportive and respectful environment where patients and their loved ones feel safe, and to promote a positive dying experience for all. We understand the different situations that people may face and know the value of person-centred care. Much of our work also focuses on pre-bereavement care and supporting loved ones through what is often a very difficult time.
Effective pain and symptom control are prioritised to enable those in our care to die with comfort and dignity. Spiritual care is equally important and we are fortunate to work closely with our hospital Chaplaincy team.
