Main duties of the job

Working as part of a Multidisciplinary Health and Safety Team this role will support the delivery of integrated systems and safe systems of work across both Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and The Isle of Wight NHS Trust. As a subject matter expert the post holder will provide advice and guidance to all levels of Trust staff on all aspects of Health and Safety Management relating to Manual Handling and Back Care, with a key focus on safer patient Moving and Handling, in line with national guidance and best practice.

The post holder will be required to lead and co-ordinate the delivery of Moving & Handling training across all staff groups and disciplines, ensuring that training needs meet all statutory and legal requirements throughout both organisations.

As a specialist Advisor the role will also require the ability to support and provide advice on the safe management and/or care for patients with specific or complex handling needs.

  • Professional Qualification and current Registration (NMC or AHP)

Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by specialist professional knowledge and knowledge of mentorship, education and development practice, to postgraduate diploma level equivalent. (Or relevant demonstrable prior experience)
  • Ability to communicate complex/highly complex information to individuals/groups/committees in a comprehensive way
  • Ability to plan and organise complex activities or programmes underpinning relevant H&S topics and legislative requirements
  • Confident in preparing and delivering complex written reports
  • Confident to deliver training, presentations and/or reports to individuals, groups and or committees
  • Ability to develop and deliver a broad range of training and educational programmes relevant to scope of role
  • Ability to work autonomously, and as part of a team with integrity and confidentiality, managing own workload and demands
