Job summary

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is delighted to be able to offer a Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship in all four fields of nursing namely Adult, Mental Health, Child and Young persons and Learning Disability.

This opportunity is in collaboration with the Open University. Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to become caring, compassionate professionals who uphold the values of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards of Education.

Through undertaking a variety of clinical placements, combined with a diverse academic programme, our apprentice nurses are then able to deliver skilled, evidence-based care in partnership with patients, families and communities.

Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeships will be available across our Trust, starting at the beginning of February 2024. The duration of the course is 3 years and is a balance of theory and practice, delivered through a combination of practice-based and distance learning modules.

Main duties of the job

Annex 21 payments will be applied to this post, as it is a training post. You will be paid 65% of the top of band 5 salary, with a starting salary of £20,748.60 per annum/pro rata.

A post is guaranteed as a Registered Nurse in the Isle of Wight NHS Trust on successful completion of the course. Successful candidates will then use their expertise to deliver high quality, holistic, person-centred care to individuals, their families and/or carers.

Job responsibilities

Successful applicants will be employed by the Isle of Wight NHS Trust as a Registered Nurse Apprentice for 37.5 hours per week. Each apprentice nurse is allocated a home base within a designated clinical area. The Open University course consists of a variety of clinical placements and theoretical modules that meet the requirements of the apprenticeship registered nurse degree programme. Placement allocation, study time and annual leave is planned for the duration of the course.

Successful completion of this apprenticeship will achieve a BSc (Hons) in the chosen field of Nursing. Applicants will be entitled to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse. This is the professional body that monitors and regulates the nursing profession in the UK. All registered nurses must uphold the NMC Code (2018) and meet the NMC requirements for continuing registration.
