Peer Support Worker

Job summary

We are excited to be advertising for two Peer Support Workers to join the service. We are thrilled to be able to offer a bespoke inpatient service focused on women's care. These roles will support the delivery of the acute care pathway. We are looking for people with lived experience of using mental health services and in particular inpatient services. . We welcome applications from diverse communities to represent the vibrant city we serve.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve a number of responsibilities supporting our female service users on an acute ward. This will include 1:1 and group work to support people with individual recovery, you will also be a valued part of the multidisciplinary team.

  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and associated difficulties
  • Knowledge of mental health services including treatment and support.
  • To have experience of being in a supportive and enabling role.
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and principles of co-production and service user and carer led recovery initiatives.
  • Awareness of the impact of stigma and discrimination.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to draw upon your lived experience to enhance the approaches offered to service users, to support their wellbeing.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a recovery focused way

training and qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE level in Maths and English Language, or equivalent.
  • A willingness to undertake any further training as required.

  • Lived experience of managing a mental health difficulty
  • Direct experience of using mental health or voluntary services and ability to use this experience positively in the role and be willing and able to share one's own personal recovery to help others
  • Personal experience of using acute inpatient mental health services
