Job summary
People who use our services are from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of needs which may include mental health, learning disabilities or dementia.
As a support worker you will be working closely with individuals, enabling them to live their lives and with support from a Multi-Disciplinary team of nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers and doctors.
We will offer induction and training which will give you the skills to feel confident in your role.
Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is currently unable to provide sponsorship for this role. This is in accordance with UKVI guidelines and legislation, as these roles do not meet the skill nor salary threshold for sponsorship. If you hold a visa which allows you to work in the UK, you are welcome to apply for this role however it is important to note that SHSC will be unable to offer sponsorship after your visa expires. You must also have at least 12 months on your visa at the start of your employment for training and operational reasons.

Main duties of the job
Key elements of the role include:
- Build and maintain safe and effective therapeutic relationships with individuals.
- Support people to identify their own hopes and goals, and contribute to collaborative care/support/recovery plans.
- Support the named nurse to develop collaborative care plans and implement them creatively using own initiative.
- Communicate effectively with a wide range of people using a range of preferred methods.
- Monitor, observe and engage with people, communicating outcomes and conclusions with the rest of the team.
- Gain an understanding of a person's experiences in relation to their mental health, learning disability and/or dementia.
- Understand a person's coping strategies and strengths and support them to use these at times of distress or difficulty.
- Contribute to reflective practice and encourage compassion and understanding.
- Be able to recognise increasing risk and alert colleagues to respond as needed.
- Undertake a range of practical tasks and duties in support of the team and individual needs.
- Follow principles of diffusion and de-escalation and where physical interventions are required, to approach in line with approved techniques considering the safety and dignity of the individual throughout.
- Be able to report untoward incidents and areas of concern as soon as they arise.
- Document any relevant information following relevant policy and legislation.
- Contribute to individual reviews and team meetings.
- Aspire to instill hope and optimism.
