Job summary
As a support worker within the Perinatal Service, you will be workingintensively with a number of women who are suffering from complex and/or severe Perinatal Mental Health issues, supporting them through one of the most challenging yet rewarding times of their lives. You will work alongside a Multi-Disciplinary team of nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, parent infant workers, community nursery nurses and doctors. We also work closely with Maternity and Health Visiting services, the Peer support charity LIGHT and primary mental health services.

Main duties of the job
Each woman and her family has different needs however the list belowoutlines just some of the practical duties that the post holder willundertake.Support and enable women to/with:? identify their own goals to improve their quality of life? contribute to their own care plans? develop care plans with their care coordinator/named nurse andimplement them creatively using initiative? supporting women to express their needs and wishes? promote a healthy bond with Mother and Baby? Demonstrate an awareness of the family as a system encouragingexploration of relationships.? Supporting with emotional needs? Reduce stigma and shame associated with Perinatal Mental HealthIssues? Encourage open and honest dialogue of issues affecting new and/orexpectant mothers? Support for a woman to maintain their physical health.? An awareness of safeguarding issues and reporting through Trustsystems.? actively engage in health promotion? Support vocational and educational aspirations? engage in meaningful and enjoyable activity? Encourage and support attendance at appointments? to structure time positively? initiate, maintain and strengthen familial and social relationships? increase self confidence? support a woman to embrace new opportunities?
