Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic leader with in depth knowledge of peer support work and leadership experiences alongside lived experience of receiving care from mental health services to join our team as Deputy Peer Lead .

As a Deputy Peer Lead, you will work with the Peer Support Lead to ensure that peer support provision is delivered in a recovery focused way that promotes hope, opportunity, and control for service users. Including having responsibility for a number of objectives of the peer support plan; implementing and delivering this.

We will support your learning as a developing leader in peer support and are looking for an autonomous practitioner who has in-depth knowledge of peer support frameworks.

It is anticipated this will be a dynamic role with lots of variation and will include tasks such as;

  • Support in the development of and lead on the delivery of training to teams on the peer competency framework.
  • Ensure peer support workers are delivering care aligned to the peer competency framework.

Main duties of the job

The role has a number of duties including:

To provide group supervision and support to peer support workers.

To be actively involved in the continued development of the PSW training programme and ongoing evaluation of the PSW role.

To work in partnership with the peer support lead to identify and lead on opportunities for co-production which will influence the practice, policies, and procedures within SHSC.

To work with colleagues to develop peer competencies and ensure they are met.

To work closely with team and service managers supporting in the development and definition of job roles and supporting induction and introduction of the peer role.

To work with a diverse group of people either in groups or individually

To work as part of the team supporting the peer support workers and the wider lived experience workforce.

To co-produce and deliver training.

To assist in the audit and evaluation of peer support work across services.

To ensure ongoing evaluation of preparation workshops delivered to staff teams; and to routinely review the materials with Peer Workers

  • Planning and prioritisation of workload
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and principles of co-production and service user and carer led recovery initiatives.
  • Awareness of the impact of stigma and discrimination and knowledge of trauma-informed care.
