Job summary

We are excited to offer Band 6 Registered Mental Health nursing roles in our Decisions Unit. Which is part of our Crisis Hub at the Longley Centre, Northern General Hospital.

The Decisions Unit works alongside the Health Based Place of Safety, our 24/7 Single Point of Access and the citywide Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) service. These services work hand in hand to provide 24/7 effective, safe and high-quality crisis care.

The Decisions Unit works closely with our Psychiatric Liaison Service to ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time. It offers a safe and therapeutic environment to aid assessment for those whose crisis situation may resolve quickly or for those who need further review of their needs.

Innovative approaches to care means that the Decisions Unit will also be providing a triage service for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, to ensure service users are able to access the care best suited to their needs in a timely manner and providing opportunity for ongoing development of the Decisions Unit Care Team.

Main duties of the job

The Decisions Unit and Section 136 works closely with our 24/7 Single Point of Access , citywide Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) service, Psychiatric Liaison service and a variety of community services. To ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time. It offers a safe and therapeutic environment to aid assessment for those whose crisis situation may resolve quickly or for those who need further review of their needs.

The role requires :

- Excellent communication skills to work in collaboration with the service user, other professionals and wider services.

- Effective skills in assessing, planning, evaluating and managing care.

- To effectively assess risk and implement plans in collaboration with service users to assist them in maintaining their safety.

- Knowledge and experience of providing basic therapeutic interventions to support people in mental health crisis.

- Good understanding of physical health and how it impacts on mental wellbeing.

- Flexibility to cover a two shift pattern, 24/7 rota.

Responsible for the delivery of effective, safe, high quality crisis care within the DU / Crisis Hub. This will involve the effective assessment, planning, evaluation and management of crisis care, clinical need and risk.
