Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work as a key member of the Community Learning Disability Team within the psychology service. You will provide assessment, formulation and talking therapies to adults with learning disabilities. You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and receive excellent supervision and support. You will provide consultancy and workshops on topics such as mental health, positive behaviour support, dementia or autism to families and providers.
Our aim is to provide high quality, strengths based, trauma-informed, person centred care which enhances the lives of adults with learning disabilities.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the job will be to provides psychological assessment, formulation and interventions for adults who have mental health difficulties and/or behaviours of concern.You will work with the person, their family, and their carers to develop person centred care plans designed to improve quality of life. Direct work will include offering adapted talking therapies (e.g., adapted CBT, CAT or ACT) designed to reduce psychological distress and increase coping strategies and quality of life. You will also offer staff or family workshops to help support the 'team around the person' better understand and respond to the person's needs.You will receive weekly supervision and opportunities to work alongside qualified, trainee and assistant psychologists as well as other members of the MDT.

Job purpose
To provide a qualified specialist Clinical Psychology service to clients referred to the Community Learning Disabilities Team across all sectors of care; providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.

- To have frequent direct exposure to clients who present challenging behaviour, have mental health problems or may have experienced abuse or other traumatic events, and where the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills are required.
- To provide psychological inputs and interventions for clients and their carers in the least restrictive and least stigmatising environment.
- Job role may involve working alone with clients in situations where there may be some risk of verbal or physical aggression from clients, carers, and the general public.
