Job summary

STEP is a service that provides a range of recovery and preventative focussed psycho-educational programmes. These are facilitated in a blended approach via either a classroom or online settings.

We constantly strive to improve the service we provide clients, and we are seeking to recruit an experienced Recovery Worker/Facilitator with Lived Experience to join our supportive, enthusiastic, and energetic team. This role is a new opportunity within the team for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with lived experience of receiving care from mental health services to join our team.

You will understand the needs and difficulties of people with mental health issues and an experience of working with this client group.

The purpose of this role is to draw upon lived experience to enhance the approaches offered to service users to support their personal recovery by helping them identify their strengths, values and aspirations. You will need to understand the needs and difficulties of people with mental health issues and have experience of working with this client group. Have experience in the use of psychological strategies: active listening, problem solving/coping strategies and self-management, self-help and self-care in the building and maintaining safe and effective relationships.

We will support your learning as a peer support worker and access an ImROC training programme to develop skills to equip you for a career in peer support.

Main duties of the job

The aim of the service is to work to build resilience and help individuals to develop positive coping strategies in their lives enabling them to manage their mental health and prevent the need for longer term support.

To use your lived experience and understanding of mental health problems in the following areas

To co-facilitate psycho- educational courses.

Present healthy coping strategies, self-management tools and discuss the concepts of acceptance and self-compassion.

Work in co-production with clients and colleagues, to emphasise recovery, social inclusion, vocational rehabilitation and promote good physical health and mental health wellbeing.

Develop creative and flexible ways of working including strong links and partnerships with local providers for the benefit of clients.

Empower and involve clients in the understanding of their own recovery and in the delivery of this and the wider service provision.

Create/support opportunities for clients and relevant others to volunteer within the service, as an initial step towards independence, wherever appropriate.

To mentor volunteers

Use creative ways of engagement, forming professional working relationships, and to support positive discharge for clients.

Provide educational and supportive input to carers and relatives if deemed appropriate.

Provide accurate, legible, and complete information consistent with legal and organisational requirements as appropriate.
