Job summary

Job title: Specialist Health Visitor

The Health Inclusion Team provides an innovative nursing and health visiting service to a transient population. That is; people who live in homeless accommodation, women's refuges, asylum seekers, refugees, Gypsies and Travellers.

As a Specialist Health Visitor you will be expected to undertake family health assessments and child health surveillance in accordance with the Healthy Child Programme for adults and children, 0 to 19 years.

Working in partnership with children, families and individuals to provide high quality effective healthcare, to prevent ill health, promote positive health and reduce health inequalities. You will contribute to the development of the service for Homeless people, Gypsies and Travellers and Asylum Seekers and Refugees.

The post holder will need to be a Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting) and a Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber with current NMC registration. In order to undertake the duties of the post the successful candidate will have relevant experience working with diverse communities and socially disadvantaged groups.

The team works closely with a range of agencies to ensure a strong and coordinated service working within the NMC Code of Professional Standards and Clinical Governance Frameworks.

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Registered Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting)
  • Non Medical Prescriber
  • Revalidation compliance with the NMC and evidence of continued professional development
  • Specialist knowledge acquired through a combination of short courses, postgraduate level study and/or experience to Master's level

Desirable

  • Experience of implementing new ways of working/practice development.
  • Experience of working with school aged children.
  • Experience of supervising other staff and students.
  • Experience in the use of SystmOne
  • Experience of multi-agency and partnership working.

  • Advanced clinical skills.
  • Experience and skills in carrying out health needs assessment for adults, children and young people 0-19 years of age
  • Understanding of the issues relating to vulnerability and the health and social needs of homeless
  • Understanding of the issues relating to vulnerability and the health and social needs of Gypsies and Travellers,
  • Understanding of the issues relating to vulnerability and the health and social needs of those seeking asylum and refugees.
  • Understanding of the issues relating to substance misuse.
  • A sound knowledge of local and national adult and child protection and safeguarding guidelines and policies.
