Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated Assistant Psychologist to work within our well established community stroke psychology service in Sheffield. This role will be based within a team of specialist stroke clinical psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists (within the wider Older Adults and Neurological Conditions Psychology department), working with professionals across the stroke pathway, including third sector.

The post will involve community working, including travel to patients' homes and may include some ward based work (stroke rehabilitation unit). The role will involve a significant element of service development and will be a great opportunity to develop the psychological care available to stroke survivors, in line with stroke care guidance.

Links with other Assistant Psychologists within the OANC department and trust will provide additional opportunities for peer support, learning and development. You will also have access to training / CPD opportunities within the OANC department and stroke pathway.

Main duties of the job

To support the delivery of a stepped care model of psychological care to stroke survivors, experiencing cognitive and emotional difficulties post stroke. This will involve working across different community services, providing psychological assessment and interventions for mild to moderate difficulties under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist. The role will work closely with qualified psychologists and other professionals on the stroke pathway (NHS and other sectors). The role will also involve assisting with service development projects around psychological care for stroke survivors (including training and developing group provision) in conjunction with other professionals and services / third sector as required. The role will support clinically related activities as required including liaison with other agencies / third sector, administration, audit and service evaluation.

We are looking for applicants who are highly motivated with great communication and organisation skills and an ability to work creatively and flexibly in the delivery of psychological care.

Prior experience as an Assistant Psychologist plus experience of working with people with physical health /and / or neurological difficulties and delivering groups is also required.

This post involves working across a range of community settings across the Sheffield area, requiring frequent travel; ability to meet these travel requirements to fulfil the role is essential.
