Job summary

This appointment is for a permanent less than full time (LTFT) Consultant in the Recovery Team (6 sessions). The post holder will be responsible for providing medical cover at the Eastglade Centre, Sheffield.

The Recovery Service South provides support to adults living in south Sheffield who have complex or ongoing mental health needs. You may also hear us referred to as a community mental health team. The recovery teams (North and South) have a caseload of approximately 1,000 patients each. Two thirds of the patients are under active recovery and have a care coordinator overseeing multidisciplinary treatment. One third of patients are managed under a caseload management system, which aims to deliver a lower level of support to a large number of people.

There is a significant change expected in the Recovery Services in Sheffield as the national framework for Transformed Mental Health Services starts to take shape. The newly transformed services will work closely with Primary and Community Mental Health Services as well the local Voluntary Sector.

New referrals to community health services are received, triaged, and assessed by the Trust Single Point of Access Team. Approximately 50 people per month are referred on to the recovery teams, and 70% go on to receive some support from the recovery teams. Each team has approximately 30 patients subject to CTO and 30 patients with MoJ restrictions and the consultant will be the RC for an equitable proportion of these patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide medical leadership to the Recovery team, including regular meetings with senior clinical staff to plan/co-ordinate team workload
  • Attendance/leadership of MDT meetings
  • Attendance and participation in team governance and team development meetings
  • Contribution to the CPA process for patient management, including regular liaison with care coordinators
  • Provision of medical/psychiatric assessments to inform care planning and risk assessment, by regular clinic sessions and flexible use of clinical time
  • Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions
  • Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Health Act
  • Report writing and attendance at Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Managers' Hearings
  • Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Capacity Act
  • Completion of administrative tasks related to clinical responsibilities.
