Job summary

Registered Mental Health/RNLD Nurse/RGN

The post holder will work as a member of the inpatient nursing team on a ward that provides care and treatment to patients with anorexia, addressing the patients' physical health as well as mental health needs. To participate as an active member of the multidisciplinary team and provide a therapeutic experience to patients, both as a Primary nurse and also as part of the general therapeutic milieu on the ward. To promote the effective treatment, care and support of clients who have eating disorders.

Main duties of the job

  • To practice core values of recovery by focusing on improvement in functions rather than symptoms and assisting in developing social and occupational roles for service users.
  • Establish effective working relationships with service users, carers and families and encourage their participation in the recovery process
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care that is based on best practice and delivers high standard of nursing care.
  • To co-ordinate the individual's assessment and subsequent care plan as agreed with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To effectively communicate with clients, family and colleagues
  • To work in partnershipwith service users and carers, rehabilitation service managers and third sector who provide supported accommodation and vocational rehabilitation.
  • Ensure that statutory and legal requirements of care are incorporated safely within each patient's programme of care.
  • To meet the physical, psychological, social and cultural needs of the individual and their family, using research based knowledge and skills to maintain the individual's identity.
  • Observe the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 ensuring the patient is fully informed of their legal position and their rights under the Act.
