Job summary
The post-holder will work across the inpatient mental health wards to deliver a comprehensive exercise offer, utilising the multi-purpose sports hall spaces available. The post-holder will work alongside a small team of exercise professionals to provide bespoke exercise plans and goal attainment work. In addition, they will provide a group exercise programme with an emphasis on healthy lifestyle and well-being.
As a member of the wider multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will provide person-centred assessments and interventions, promoting a recovery approach and social inclusion, to maximise physical activity and lifestyle management. This will include assessment and treatment on the units and in community settings as appropriate, to support the exercise pathway. Close working with our partners (e.g. Arsenal in the Community, GLL and others) are key to the success of this role.
The post-holder will ensure that their practice meets the requirements of this clinical group and assess the needs of service users with complex mental and physical health needs. This includes adaptation of activity and falls risk minimisation work. The post holder is expected to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with other staff members characterised by trust, mutual respect, and open, honest communication.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to deliver a comprehensive Sports Hall Service for service users on across Highgate East and West. This includes being overseeing the group programme and individual sessions for service users interested in attending the sport hall facilities and also link with external stakeholders and develop pathways for exercise.
The post-holder will ensure that her/his practice meets the requirements of the clinical group and is in keeping with current evidence-based practices. The post holder will work with OT's, Arts Therapists and technical staff to provide a comprehensive treatment programme for service users.
The post holder will have supervisory responsibility for junior staff and student practitioners working in the unit. Although staff are allocated initially to work in one specific area, all appointments are made to the In-Patient Services.
To provide and support a programme of exercise provision with an emphasis on healthy lifestyle and physical activity across the inpatient service, alongside a small team of exercise professionals.To actively involve service users in identifying their needs and goals as part of the multi-disciplinary team care plan. To carry out specialist group and individual interventions jointly with other members of the multi-disciplinary team as appropriate. To maintain close relationships with third sector partners and develop further opportunities for joint working.
