Job summary

This role will suit those already working at a senior level in IPC (band 7 or above). Acting as an expert IPC practitioner, the post holder will lead on the operational delivery of the trust IPC strategy through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, training & education, policies & guideline development.

They will demonstrate highly developed specialist infection prevention knowledge as a result of extensive experience within infection prevention, supported by a specialist qualification in IPC and act as an expert on highly complex infection prevention matters across the trust.

They will play a key role in co-ordination and development of a quality IPC service for the trust, providing education, support and guidance to all trust staff and ensuring a patient focussed service to reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections.

The post holder will demonstrate high level of clinical decision-making, working in close partnership with the Associate Director for IPC and deputise when required.

The post holder will work closely with the Associate Director for IPC, so as to provide comprehensive assistance and support to the IPC team and the wider workforce.

They will have a key role in line management responsibilities and support the professional development of the IPC nursing team, and possess leadership and managerial skills.

Main duties of the job

To implement and lead a programme for the prevention, investigation, surveillance, and control of infection in collaboration with the Associate director of IPC , ensuring that correct policies and governance processes are followed.

To undertake a regular review of the Trust's infection control policies, updating as required and ensuring that relevant changes are communicated and implemented within the Trust.

To agree standards of practice and forms of monitoring through policy development, implementation, monitoring and practice observation.

Have a current understanding of common infection control management and demonstrates capability to respond to rapidly changing clinical scenarios and emerging clinical knowledge.

To provide advice to Trust staff when outbreaks and incidents occur and facilitate outbreak meetings for the team/ward involved.

To provide prompt response to regulatory bodies enquiries in collaboration with the Associate director of IPC.

To draft the Infection Control Annual Report in collaboration with the Associate director of IPC, summarising the work undertaken within the year and making recommendations in relation to the work programme for the following year.

To provide professional developmental support to the Band 7 IPC Nurses.
