Job summary

We currently have an exciting vacancy for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist passionate about working with service users who find it difficult to engage with a traditional service model and who have complex needs. The service utilises a team-based approach and provide a wide range of interventions that are recovery orientated and client-centred.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will fully contribute to the team approach whilst also providing a specific Occupational Therapy service as identified by the needs of the service users.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Completed diploma, degree or MSc in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration with HCPC
  • Evidence of further post-registration relevant training /ongoing academic study relevant to area of practice

Desirable

  • Practice educator certificate or willingness to undertake

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill
  • Able to work autonomously and to deputise for senior staff in a variety of roles when required to do so.
  • Ability to maintain boundaries and form positive therapeutic relationships with service users and carers and staff.
  • Able to work as part and to lead a team

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience as an occupational therapist working with people with complex mental health and physical health issues in a community care or rehabilitation setting.
  • To demonstrate a sound knowledge and experience of evidence based best practice and research in working with service users with mental health issues
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Mental Health legislation or legislation relevant to older adults, its application and use in practice.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of risk together with an ability to evaluate and contain risk with reference to the individual, staff and carers.
  • Demonstrates practical experience of dealing with the needs of people with complex presentations including people with complex physical health/mobility issues and equipment needs
