Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic full time Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join Camden and Islington's Hospital Division, in the North London Mental Health Partnership.
You will work on the inpatient wards, specifically within Services for Ageing and Mental Health (SAMHS), based at Highgate Mental Health Centre. You will have overall Occupational Therapy responsibility for the Dementia inpatient ward, with oversight of the functional older adult's ward and the Band 5 Occupational Therapist working there. You will be required to deliver a comprehensive Occupational Therapy Service for service users on your caseload to meet the identified occupational and functional needs.
There will also be opportunity for CPD and Quality Improvement project involvement, as well as service development opportunities on the ward.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the multidisciplinary team you will provide a variety of person-centred assessments and interventions, promoting a recovery approach and social inclusion, to maximise activity of daily living skills and lifestyle management. This will include assessment and treatment on the unit, in community settings and home visits as appropriate to support the acute clinical pathway. Assessment and review of care packages and liaison with other organisations and health care providers will also be required.
You will ensure that your practice meets the requirements of this clinical group and assess the needs of service users with complex mental and physical health needs. This includes falls risk minimisation work and the issuing and provision of equipment, aids and minor adaptations.
You will ensure that their practice is in keeping with current evidence-based practices, in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics, and will work with OTs, Arts Therapists and activity workers to provide a comprehensive treatment programme for service users.
You will have supervisory responsibility for junior staff and student practitioners working in the unit. You will receive supervision and mentoring from the OT Clinical Lead.
