Job summary
This post is for 1 WTE Locum Consultant Psychiatrist working within the South Islington Core Community Mental Health Team (5PA) currently based at Holloway Road and the Complex Depression Anxiety and Trauma (CDAT) Team (5PA) based at St Pancras Hospital. Both teams are due to move in January 2024.
The post is available for 6 months initially but may be extended whilst recruitment to substantive vacancy is underway.
The post-holder will be part of the multidisciplinary teams which includes both statutory and voluntary sector roles and provides holistic care to patients in a primary care setting aligned to the Central Primary Care Networks in Islington & the CDAT MDT.
Main duties of the job
The specific clinical and managerial responsibilities of the post-holder will be as follows:
- Assist with diagnosis, medication reviews, management plans, risk assessments, crisis plans and self-help plans for patients with complex mental health problems.
- Provide clinical assessments of patients as necessary.
- Provide follow up as necessary for clients within teams.
- Support MDT in their diagnosis, management and treatment of patients through case discussions, joint consultations supervision and bespoke training.
- Play a key role in implementing improved linkage between 'core' community and 'intensive' teams within the Long Term Plan model.
- Provide Consultant input and clinical leadership to CDAT & South Islington Core Teams
- Provide Consultant input to triage system for referrals into CDAT & South Islington Core Teams
- To provide advice and support to South Islington GPs, and other practice staff, regarding the assessment and management of the mental health difficulties of patients registered with their practice. This may be done through case discussions, joint consultations and bespoke training as appropriate.

Education/Qualifications/Registration
Essential
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice. Must be on the specialist register or within 6 months of gaining a Certificate of Completion of Training
- Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry
- Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility) - qualifies to act as a Responsible Clinician
- Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD programme and in good standing
Desirable
- Other relevant post-graduate qualification
- Trained as an Educational Supervisor for doctors in training
- Training as a Consultant mentor
- Training up to date to be an approved trainer/clinical supervisor in line with GMC recognition and approval of trainers which is overseen by the LETB

- Knowledge and observance of the requirements and duties of a doctor laid down by the GMC in Good Medical Practice.
- Clinical knowledge of the full range mental disorders.

- Expertise in a comprehensive range of evidence based treatment and case management options including pharmacotherapy.
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding practices
- Experience in work place based assessments of doctors in training
- Knowledge of clinical commissioning and external organisations that interface with an NHS Trust
