Job summary

We are looking for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with significant experience of perinatal mental health to lead and develop an expanding team of clinical, counselling and assistant psychologists working in specialist perinatal mental health services (SPMHS) across the five boroughs of the North London Partnership .

This is a newly created post and an exciting opportunity for someone with energy, enthusiasm and leadership experience and qualities. You will help establish and maintain excellent services which are welcoming, accessible and which deliver high quality evidence based care.

You will join the senior leadership team in SPMHS and be part of a large psychology service across the five boroughs of the North London Mental Health Partnership. The wider psychology service can offer you peer support, CPD, specialist supervision and research opportunities and guidance.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will lead and manage psychological therapists working in community perinatal services across the five boroughs of North London Partnership. They will ensure delivery of high-quality evidence based psychological interventions.
  • The post holder will be responsible for providing / ensuring clinical and management supervision to psychology staff in the community mental health service.
  • The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the psychology team understand and operate to the requirements of the service's operational policy and strategy and that safe, evidence based, NICE concordant, effective, culturally competent and trauma informed care is delivered in a timely manner to service users.
  • The post holder will play a key strategic role in expanding and developing service provision in line with national guidelines and local priorities and they will actively contribute to the evaluation of clinical services through audit and governance.
  • The post holder will be responsible for providing highly skilled psychological assessment and specialist intervention to highly complex clients of one of the community teams and will be expected to offer advice, consultation and support to other teams as needed.
  • The post holder will guide and support quality improvement, involvement in research and service and carer involvement / co-production.

About us

The North London Partners (NLP) have developed Perinatal Mental Health Services in North Central London across the five boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey. The service has been running since 2017.

The Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service (SPMHS) is a multi-disciplinary community mental health service for pregnant and postnatal women and birthing people with moderate to severe mental illness. The aim of the team is to detect, prevent and treat perinatal mental health problems to improve the experience of pregnancy and the two years postpartum for service users and their families.

Qualifications/ Registrations

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology and current registration with the Health Professions Council as a clinical psychologist or a counselling psychologist
  • Completion of further post-qualification specialist training in areas of practice relevant to the post

Skills/ Abilities

Essential

  • Highly developed skills in the use of a range of methods of psychological assessment (including psychometric tests), intervention and management for the full range of problems of severity and complexity presented in perinatal mental health including challenging behaviours.
  • Highly developed skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, primary care, outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Substantial post-qualification experience working with the client group of the post or a related client group.
  • Experience of the management of qualified applied psychologists and/or psychological therapy staff
  • Experience of leading and contributing to service development
