Job summary

Advanced Specialist Clinical Pharmacist (Fixed Term Contract for Maternity Cover)

To provide leadership within the specialist pharmacy team, ensuring that the changing medicines management, optimisation and pharmacy needs are being met across the trust and support and embed the trust core values into everyday practice.

To lead on delivering a clinical pharmacy service to wards across the trust.

To manage allocated staff within the clinical services.

To act as lead for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education including Educational Programme Director for the Trust's preferred postgraduate diploma provider and distance learning diplomas and Non-Medical Prescribing Training Lead for the Pharmacy Department.

To work collaboratively with the Advanced Specialist Pharmacist (for Education and Training - Trainee Pharmacists) (Educational Programme Director for Trainee Pharmacists) and encourage and support junior pharmacists to undertake postgraduate qualifications and the formal qualification for trainee pharmacists.

The postholder will work closely with the Advanced Specialist Pharmacist (for Education and Training - Trainee Pharmacists) in ensuring a cohesive training programme for rotational pharmacists.

To work collaboratively with the Lead Pharmacy Technician for Education and Training and support the training and development of all pharmacy staff within the department ensuring they have adequate knowledge and competencies to perform their duties.

Main duties of the job

  • To deliver an advanced comprehensive medicines management service to patients and the multidisciplinary treatment team responsible for their care.
  • To act as lead for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education including as Educational Programme Director for the Trust's preferred postgraduate diploma provider and distance learning diplomas and Non-Medical Prescribing Training Lead for the Pharmacy Department.
  • To act as both educational and practice supervisor for pharmacists undertaking the postgraduate clinical certificate/diploma, where needed.
  • To manage and develop ward pharmacy services and work closely with the Advanced Specialist Pharmacist (for Education and Training - Trainee Pharmacists) in ensuring cohesive clinical rotations for the band 6 and 7 pharmacists in C&I.
  • To be responsible for the direct line management of allocated staff which includes responsibility for regular supervision, appraisal, recruitment, and sickness absence.
  • To be part of the Pharmacy Department senior management team.
  • To participate, lead and support Quality Improvement projects, clinical audits and practice research where required to improve services.
  • To provide input into policy and procedures affecting the use of pharmaceuticals at both local and trust wide levels.
  • To deputise for the Lead Pharmacist which may include attending senior meetings.
  • To participate in the pharmacy department out of hours service as per the weekend and on-call rotas.

We deliver services to a population of 420,000 in two boroughs Camden and Islington, as well as services in the surrounding boroughs.

The department has working relationships with pharmacy teams within the NCL ICS .

The pharmacy department is currently undergoing significant developments including the implementation of an EPMA system.

The post holder will have a leading role in delivering and progressing our clinical pharmacy services as well as working as a member of the multidisciplinary teams. The post holder will be part of the senior management team. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated with excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills who can work well within a team.
