Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for aClinical/Counselling Psychologist to join a small service providing dedicated psychological support for those affected by the abuse that occurred in Islington's childrens homes and associated institutions between 1960 and 1995. https://www.candi.nhs.uk/our-services/islington-survivors-trauma-service This includes providing high-quality psychological assessment and specialist trauma-focused psychological therapy for survivors presenting with complex PTSD and/or other mental health impacts of their trauma. The role also involves ongoing liaison with partner organisations and signposting to other services as appropriate.

The service is embedded within the Traumatic Stress Clinic (TSC) and the post holder will have access to specialist supervision groups within the TSC, in addition to individual supervision.

This is a fixed-term 0.6 WTE position until March 2025. Ideally this will include Mondays to attend team meetings. The clinic is based at St Pancras Hospital, but the role can be a hybrid of clinic and home working.

We are especially keen to recruit a psychologist from the BAME community to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of those who grew up in the borough of Islington.

To provide psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, to assist in the formulation, diagnosis and treatment of clients.

To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients.

To liaise with other health and social care staff, from a range of agencies, and survivor support networks in the care provided to clients, where appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence.
  • Completion of further post-doctoral post-qualification specialist training including (1) In-house one year CPD programme for newly qualified psychologists or equivalent and

Desirable

  • (2) Training in supervision of trainee clinical psychologists

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, including with acute and complex PTSD, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.

Desirable

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, primary care, outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Completion of two years post-doctoral post-qualification supervised clinical experience with the client group of the post or a related client group
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
