Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust

Tobacco Dependency Advisor

The closing date is 15 July 2025

Job summary

Are you passionate about improving people's lives and reducing health inequalities? Do you want to be part of a pioneering programme that treats smoking as a clinical addiction--not just a lifestyle choice?

We are looking for a dedicated Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisor to join our Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service at Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust. This role is at the heart of our Healthy Hospitals Programme, supporting both patients and staff to quit smoking, improve their wellbeing, and move towards healthier lifestyles.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisor, you will:

  • Provide one-on-one and group smoking cessation support to patients, staff, and--where appropriate--carers.

  • Promote healthy lifestyle advice and act as a champion for smoke-free living across the Trust.

  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service, ensuring delivery of safe, evidence-based care.

  • Contribute to care planning, risk assessment, and referral processes, supporting a smooth transition from hospital to community services.

  • Deliver training, advice, and ongoing support to staff across ward and community settings.

  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to service monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.

  • Manage referrals and ensure robust discharge planning for patients continuing their quit journey post-discharge.

  • Work independently within a supportive and dynamic team environment

Main duties of the job

We're seeking someone who:

  • Has experience in health improvement or smoking cessation roles (NCSCT training desirable).

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and the ability to manage sensitive and complex conversations.

  • Is comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • Has strong organizational skills and is proficient in maintaining accurate documentation and data recording.

  • Brings a commitment to reducing tobacco harm and improving public health outcomes across diverse communities

Clinical Duties
  • Deliver tobacco harm reduction support, including behavioural change sessions and smoking cessation assessments.

  • Provide face-to-face interventions and advice on stop-smoking pharmacotherapies (e.g., NRT, varenicline) and e-cigarettes/vapes.

  • Develop and implement individualised care plans, based on clinical assessment and patient goals.

  • Offer guidance on healthy lifestyle changes, including diet, physical activity, and stress management.

  • Support specific client groups (e.g., inpatients, outpatients), while assisting in care coordination and seamless transitions to community services.

  • Educate and support staff in delivering smoke-free conversations and promoting tobacco harm reduction across the Trust.

  • Contribute to and reinforce staff training on tobacco dependency and smoke-free policies.

Closing date: 15th July 2025

Shortlisting: 16th July 2025 onwards

Interviews: Late July 2025
