Job summary
Due to the planned reduction of hours of the current post holder towards retirement, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a stand-alone post of Designated Doctor: Safeguarding Children 4 PAs / week at Bradford PLACE and part of the West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (WY ICB).
There is flexibility in the post. The preference is for an experienced Designated Doctor with Level 5 CP training and proven leadership skills to work alongside the current postholder. Applications would also be welcomed from enthusiastic Consultant Paediatricians with level 3-4 training who would like to develop into the role, with support and mentoring from the current Designated Dr who is hosted in Bradford.
Two of the sessions for this post have come from a post previously hosted in Airedale. This post would provide a closer link with Airedale/ North Yorkshire.
This is a strategic safeguarding post to provide and promote expert leadership, professional and strategic advice to health commissioners' practitioners and the Safeguarding Partnership including around local requirements arising from relevant legislation and guidance, working across the health economy in accordance with national and guidance and Working Together and RCPCH job descriptions.
Main duties of the job
The role encompasses enabling and seeking to ensure that the West Yorkshire ICB (WYICB) at Bradford PLACE complies with national and local requirements arising from relevant legislation and guidance for Safeguarding children. This includes policy development and providing expert advice across the WYICB, commissioned providers and multi-agency partnerships and working with Partners.
The Designated Doctor Safeguarding Children is an expert and strategic leader for safeguarding and is a vital source of safeguarding advice and expertise for all relevant agencies and other organisations, in particular to health commissioners, ICBs, the local authority, Children Partnerships (Bradford District and North Yorkshire).
The Post holder provides safeguarding expertise, support and advice to the Director of Nursing and Quality who is responsible for child safeguarding and provides a health advisory role to the Bradford Safeguarding Childrens Partnership, attending meetings, fully briefing, and supporting the ICB executive member.
Working with the Designated Nurse: Safeguarding Children, they provide the lead across the health economy on statutory rapid reviews and commissioning of child safeguarding practice reviews ensuring that learning for health partners is disseminated and put into practice. They provide assurance externally to the ICB, safeguarding partnerships and NHSE that Bradford place is meeting its own statutory functions to safeguarding children and children in care.
