Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for 4 Assistant Psychologists (Band 4) to join the Psychology & Psychological Therapies Services in Bradford and Leeds. These posts are being advertised with funding from Health Education England to increase the accessibility of psychological professions to individuals from racially minoritised backgrounds, those with additional caring responsibilities and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, all of whom are currently underrepresented in Clinical Psychology.

We recognise that many individuals who apply for Assistant Psychologist posts have a long-term goal of obtaining a place on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate. However, candidates from racially and financially marginalised groups continue to be underrepresented on training courses. As a service we are committed to increasing representation, and we have been allocated funding to provide paid opportunities for aspiring clinical psychologists with lived experience disadvantage and marginalisation.

Posts are available in a range of services within Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust and within Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust via secondment. These posts are full time for 4 months with scope to be extended to 6 months, however we can consider part time options for candidates where full time is not possible.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will each be based in a service which provides psychological input. The successful candidates will be able to gain a good understanding of the role of clinical psychologists within the Trust, with many opportunities to shadow and observe clinical psychologists. They will be provided with training and CPD opportunities. In addition, they will be able to network with other Assistant Psychologists across the Trust and attend peer group supervisions.

The posts are offered on a temporary contract of 4 months. We sincerely hope that opportunities for permanent roles, or an extension of the roles, will emerge to apply for over time, however, this cannot be guaranteed. The posts will be hosted by BDCFT, though placements may be available in LYPFT via a secondment arrangement. Posts will be offered on a part-time or full-time basis (to a minimum of 0.4 wte), with some flexibility depending on the preference of the candidates and placements tailored to those requirements.
