Non-Executive Director Remunerated £13k per year 3-4 days a month

The Opportunity

There has never been a more important or compelling time to join our Board as we move progressively with the embedding of our strategic plan of Better Lives, Together and play an increasingly influential role in the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership. Like all NHS and social care organisations we now need to think differently about how we do things; in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic we have an opportunity to reimagine service delivery, harness the digital and innovation potential and reshape the way our services are delivered in collaboration with our system partners and communities.

Set in this exciting context, we are seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director with recent, relevant health and care professional experience and knowledge. An understanding of regulation and compliance within a healthcare environment would be welcomed, this role will be the Deputy Chair of the Quality and Safety Committee and the Mental Health Legislation Committee.

BDCT is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and through this appointment process it is the Trust's clear stated aim to develop candidate pools that include applicants from all backgrounds and communities. However, we want to increase the diversity of our Board and particularly encourage applications from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, people with lived experience of mental health issues and/or physical disability.

Main duties of the job

As a Non-Executive Director to our Board of Directors you will contribute to the Trust by ensuring we provide effective, safe high quality and sustainable healthcare services for the people we serve via our 'Better Lives, Together' strategy.

You will need to be a values-driven leader and have a genuine commitment to patients and the promotion of excellent health care services. You will also have:

  • Recent, relevant health and care experience in a large and complex organisation with the capacity to be Deputy Chair to the Quality and Safety Committee, and Mental Health Legislation Committee.
  • Experience of providing high levels of scrutiny, strong governance, risk management and strategic leadership would be advantageous.
Main Purpose of the Job

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is led by a Board, comprising both Executive and Non-Executive Directors. The Board is collectively responsible for the exercise of powers and for the performance of the organisation to ensure we provide effective, safe high quality and sustainable healthcare services for the people we serve via our 'Better Lives, Together' strategy.

Responsibilities include:
  • promoting the success of the organisation;
  • providing leadership to the organisation within a framework of prudent and effective controls; and
  • setting strategic direction, ensuring management capacity and capability and monitoring and managing performance.
