Job summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Band 6 Sexual Health Advisor to join our busy, dynamic team at our iCaSH clinic in Milton Keynes.

We will also consider offering a Band 5 progressive post to the right candidate and encourage applications from those with a passion for sexual health.

Support and training will be provided to achieve a Band 6 role. The band 5 Job Description is attached to the vacancy along with the Band 6 Job Description (Band 5 salary range is £31,049 - £37,796)

Monday to Friday, with one week day 12-8pm and one Saturday in four working 9am-1pm, with time off in the week.

Main duties of the job

To manage patients requiring Sexual Health Advisor contact within the service. To provide support, information, education, treatment and health promotion advice to patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B & C.

To manage and oversee the results of tests undertaken within the service and carry out robust partner notification, to ensure the attendance and treatment of contacts

To provide a safe environment whereby patients, carers and families can access care, discuss their concerns and ask questions. Provide information, advice, treatment, health promotion and education for patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, providing support and onward referral as required.

To provide time limited 1:1 work for patients specifically around risk reduction and behaviour change, using evidenced based tools such as motivational interviewing and behavioural change models, which promotes good sexual health and minimises risk.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Assess all factors which might negatively affect a patients sexual health and refer/signpost to appropriate specialist services for example: psychology/psychiatry and alcohol and drug services as required.

To provide ongoing support, advice and signposting/onward referral for people with associated concerns for example: sexual assault, termination of pregnancy, sexual identity, relationship and psychosexual issues.

Ensure at all times that the patients identity and the confidential nature of the information obtained is in accordance with current legislation, and NHS, BASHH, BHIVA, FSRH and Trust guidelines and polices.

Facilitate the recall of patients with untreated infections or those in need of follow-up and/or test of cure. To exchange relevant information about patients and contacts with other sexual health clinics as necessary.

To be competent in the management of under 18 year olds and vulnerable adults working within Fraser Guidelines and Gillick Competencies.

To liaise with multi-disciplinary teams including local safeguarding teams/services where there are concerns regarding Mental Capacity.

To practice as a prescriber, if the post-holder has a non-medical prescribing qualification.

Following training and being deemed competent, to perform phlebotomy and Point of Care HIV Testing as required

To lead and participate in sexual health promotion work within the service.

To work alongside the HIV specialist team, providing patient support.

To work within the Society of Sexual Health Advisors (SSHA) guidance.

Develop or contribute to the writing, review and updating of Trust and Service policies, guidance, standard operating procedures and other such documents.

Communication

Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with the Trusts policies, procedures and guidelines

To provide pre-HIV test discussion for high-risk patients as appropriate and where required.

To take appropriate patient history, referring/signposting on to relevant individuals within the multi-disciplinary team, as part of the patients individual care pathway.Have an understanding of relevant staff roles both within and external to the service.
