Job summary

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of the full range of services for children, young people, their families and victims within the remit of the Youth offending Service including representing the service in legal proceedings.

This will involve some extremely high risk decision making and the exercise of a high level of judgement and personal responsibility for the safeguarding of children, young people and protection of the community. expected to work in line with local safeguarding policies and procedures.

The post-holder will be based between Bedford youth offending service base and Woburn Court in Bedford , working to Hybrid Working guidelines which ensure that all co-located workers can be flexible and work in the community, from home or their home agency for a percentage of any given week.

The post-holder will provide assessment and/intervention as appropriate, or onward referral as required, in order that young people may take full advantage of their life chances.

Multi-agency working is a vital component of the role, as is working alongside young people and their families. It is expected that the post-holder will be able to act as a health advocate for the young people referred into the Service.

Main duties of the job

To support young people, families and carers with health issues and emotional and behavioural problems identified from the assessment.

To act as an advocate to the young people and support their decision making.

As part of this role the post-holder will participate in the training and education of other professionals, families and carers in order to highlight the health needs of children and young people

To promote effective communication links between all agencies by working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment.

To work in partnership with other members of the Youth Offending Service (YOS) and in particular the relevant YOS Case Manager who is responsible for the coordination of all services to the young person and their family.

To liaise on an inter/intra agency basis with other professionals in order provide an integrated package of care for the young person linking closely with universal and targeted services as appropriate.

The post-holder would be required to attend internal & external forums, panels and conferences as requested by their YOS line manager in order to share good practice and improve knowledge.

To attend multi-agency meetings on behalf on the YOS/0-19 Service as required.

The post holder will be expected at times to work flexible hours in line with the needs of the service.

The post holder will also be required to engage in outreach activities when necessary including attending police stations and courts for issues relating to health. Robust communication is essential with services who may come into contact with young people outside of these hours e.g. Police, Duty social workers, Accident and Emergency to allow follow up by the post holder.
