Job responsibilities

Main Duties

To be an integral part of the children's leadership team and integral part of the safeguarding team, working alongside other leadership colleagues to promote a high quality, efficient and effective service which is grounded in safety and risk management.

To link with the wider system safeguarding partners to develop and support effective safeguarding practices and processes within three local authorities and across the BLMK Integrated Care System

To ensure that there are robust and effective clinical governance of safeguarding children and adults at risk processes in place and maintaining positive working relationships.

To provide safeguarding advice, support and safeguarding supervision to staff working with children, young people their families and adults at risk in the MASH team and across the wider children's service.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders and partners both internally and externally.

Duties and Responsibilities

To work with Trust staff and wider system partners to promote best practice, identify risk factors and initiate or escalate appropriate action in order to safeguard children and young people and adults at risk of or suffering from physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect and emerging mental health difficulties.

To contribute to the design and implementation of the safeguarding strategy in conjunction with the wider safeguarding team promoting evidence-based practice in safeguarding within Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust (CCS) and wider system.

To contribute to collaborative interagency working and quality assurance frameworks and shared processes and policies for safeguarding children and adults at risk.

To ensure appropriate action is taken when clinical risks are identified by self, or a team member and that the escalation process is followed appropriately.

To participate in the design, implementation and delivery of the Trusts safeguarding training strategy and the safeguarding audit programme and to support others to complete this.

To participate and represent the safeguarding team on identified multi-agency sub-groups and meetings and work with partner agencies to facilitate the learning from multi-agency reviews.

To maintain records and support staff to maintain records as per the NMC and Trust requirements.

To assist the Named Professional, Deputy Named Professional and Safeguarding Team in the production of the Safeguarding Annual Report, provide data in relation to Quality Key Performance Indicators, Section 11 Self assessments and other information as requested by the wider Trust or partner agencies.

To contribute, with support from the Named Professional to Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews and ensure any learning from these is incorporated into training and disseminated across the system.

To provide clinical leadership and professional support to staff and team members; this includes active participation in team meetings and deputising for the Named Professional/Deputy Named Professional where appropriate.

To assist with development of relevant policy documents that guide practice.

To undertake clinical practice duties as determined by Named Professional.

To support staff dealing with the emotional trauma of a sudden death, or injury through a serious incident situation and accessing emotional support for self when dealing with safeguarding issues.

Area of expertise

To lead on development of defined areas of safeguarding practice as determined by Named Professional and Head of Safeguarding.

To provide support and leadership within and across Cambridgeshire Community Services on all matters relating to safeguarding children and adults at risk.

Communication

To support staff with the communication of complex and sensitive information effectively with children, young people, their parents/ carers, adults at risk and other service users.

Maintain good relationships with the multi-agency safeguarding system within Bedfordshire , thus developing professionalism through the organisation.

Human Resources

Responsible for day-to-day supervision of staff within a section or department.

Responsible for day-to-day management of a group of staff.

Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process.

Research and Development Activity

Required to undertake regular R&D activity as appropriate.

Clinical and Practice Governance

Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/ records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.

Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.

The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.

Be aware of and adhere to Trust infection control policies and procedures.

It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with NMC and HCPC and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration.

Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.

The post holder must participate in clinical and other audits as required.

Participate in clinical and management supervision on a regular basis.

The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

• First level Registered Nurse or Social Worker
• Current NMC Registered Specialist Practitioner in school nursing/health visiting/paediatrics/midwifery/Mental Health/Adult, Social Work England registration
• Evidence of further training/education in Safeguarding Children and adults at risks

Desirable

• NSPCC or other Trust accredited safeguarding children supervision training or other relevant training.
• Leadership/Management qualification

Experience

Essential

• Relevant post qualification experience working in specialist practitioner role.
• Relevant experience of safeguarding children and adults at risk
• Experience of working autonomously in their role working with children and young people and adults
• Understanding of the Think family approach to safeguarding

Desirable

• Experience of providing clinical supervision and mentoring.
• Experience of working in MASH or multi-agency setting
• Experience of working within the mental health care arena
• Leadership experience

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• Demonstrates an ability to identify and manage safeguarding concerns within current practice
• Demonstrates professional curiosity and the ability to manage appropriate professional challenge in safeguarding work.
• Ability to demonstrate effective team and multi-agency collaborative working.
• Demonstrates an understanding of safeguarding issues across children and adults.
• Demonstrates an awareness of safeguarding in relation to the development of services, healthy child program, speech and language therapy and emerging mental health difficulties with young adults.

Desirable

• Supervision skills both individual and group facilitation skills.
