Cambridge Community Service are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic applicant who is organised and methodical to work with our dedicated Newborn Hearing Screening team. You will be trained to be a Band 3 Hearing Screener and mentored in a Diploma in Hearing Screening.

We pride ourselves in offering a 'family friendly service' based in Bedford Maternity Unit although travel to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital will be required for training and or cross site working.

You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as good computer skills. Experience of working in a hospital environment and baby handling could be an advantage.

You would require a minimum of GCSE Maths and English or equivalent. Desirable candidates who hold an NHS Care Certificate Level 2 diploma but this can be offered as part of initial training for the right person.

This post is for 30 hours a week however this can be 22.5 hours a week if the candidate already holds the screening diploma or is an experienced screener.

Main duties of the job

Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills with families, the public and other health professionals.

I.T. skills and use of collation and inputting data - specifically on NHS systems.

Checking personal ID and maintaining standards of Information governance.

Organisational and prioritising skills.

Safeguarding awareness and practice.

Comfortable and safe to work patient facing on the frontline should an epidemic recur.

Dexterity to calibrate and use sensitive screening equipment.

Perform screens for both well babies and those in neonatal unit.

Work as a member of the team participating in the hearing screening of new born babies, under the supervision of the senior hearing screener and line manager.

Write accurate case notes and documentation.

Participate in audits and patient feedback.

Represent the organisation and service as a professional and kind team member.
