Job summary
This vacancy has arisen to cover a vacant Specialty Doctor post within the Coventry Community Learning Disability Team.This replacement post will have a job plan comprising of 7.5 PAs for Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 PAs for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). There is the option of flexible working.Trust is keen to continue to develop community services, with the aim of avoiding hospital admissions, where possible and safe to do so. The post carries no responsibility for inpatients.The speciality doctor will work in the CLDT providing catchment area services to Coventry. They will also work with the Learning Disability Intensive Support Team (IST) for clients from this catchment area. The CLDT accepts new referrals via the trust-wide Single Point of Access and internal referrals from anywhere within the Trust
Main duties of the job
o To provide assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with a range of psychiatric conditions who have, or are suspected as having, a learning disability.o To evaluate, manage and give advice on the interaction between psychiatric conditions and associated physical and psychological conditions.o To take a lead role in multidisciplinary reviews for complex cases, particularly where aspects of the Mental Health Act and public safety need to be given consideration.o To work with local services to develop robust care pathways, to allow transition into and out of services, in addition to movement between parts of the services, with an aim to avoid hospital admissions where it is safe and appropriate to so.
o Liaise with mental health professionals from the area the patient originates from as well as outside organisations such as the relevant Local Authority and independent sector provider organisations.o Comply with any appropriate quality standards applicable to the service and would be expected to support any new standards as they arise.o Provide cross-cover (emergency and prospective) for other speciality colleagues within the Specialty. Annual leave cover for this post will be drawn from team consultants.o Take part in Mental Health Assessments. In order to fulfil this function it is expected that post holder will hold, or apply for, Section 12(2) .
