Health Care Assistants

All Wards - Brooklands Hospital

We're looking for compassionate, motivated Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) to join our secure and adolescent assessment and treatment wards at Brooklands Hospital, a centre of excellence for learning disability and autism healthcare in Solihull.

As an HCA, you'll play a hands-on role in delivering therapeutic care. You will make a real difference to people with a learning disability and/or autism by helping them feel safe, valued and supported in their recovery.

You'll build trust, promote independence and contribute to positive clinical outcomes. We are particularly interested in people who are passionate about reducing health inequalities, advocating for fair access to care and promoting inclusion.

You'll work as part of a skilled team to deliver meaningful daily activities, support therapeutic interventions and maintain safety across our wards.

You may already have experience as a healthcare assistant, support worker, or caring for someone with a learning disability or autism.

If successful, you will be invited to a Brooklands Hospital recruitment day in January. You'll hear from patients, meet the team and learn more about the role. Interviews will take place on the same day.

If you want to make a real difference and develop your skills in a supportive team, we'd love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will work alongside our nurses and therapists to support patients with their health, wellbeing, and social care needs -- both on the unit and out in the community. You'll be part of a caring team that provides safe and meaningful care 24 hours a day, on a rota that includes days, nights, weekends and bank holidays (including Christmas and New Year).

You'll help our patients live as independently as possible, build confidence, and work towards their personal goals, knowing you're making a real difference every shift.

At Brooklands, our HCA team supports autistic individuals and people with learning disabilities within a safe, secure environment. In this role you will help patients with daily living skills, promote independence and build trusting relationships. We use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to understand behaviour, reduce distress and create meaningful routines. You will help meet sensory needs, support communication preferences, and work alongside nurses, therapists and behaviour specialists. Our team is compassionate, reflective and focused on person-centred care. We celebrate progress, however small, and work together to improve outcomes for the people we support.
